Sometimes life gives us lemons. In the storage world the lemons come in forms of donations left by tenants. Including but not limited to trash, unwanted furniture and documents. In the case of most items, Florida law allows for the storage facility to charge a disposal fee, but what happens when the left behinds are sensitive documents?

At the facility, having to find a way to dispose such documents became a learning experience. There aren’t many resources available in terms of what to do in such a situation, and countless calls brought them back to square one. Finally, after following and completing all the proper procedures the solution became obvious: Big Key Self Storage would have no choice but to shred the new found burden, a 10×25 full of medical records and papers. But how could Big Key Self Storage justify the cost/expense, especially when there was no party available to charge.

Let’s make lemonade out of lemons: A Free Shred Day for not only for the company but all current clientele as well. This became an opportunity for loyal Big Key family and business clients to safely dispose of outdated sensitive documents Free.

A paper shredding event: Big Key Self Storage advertised and offered as a free service and plenty of people showed up to “get their shred on!” As a plus the company made it festive by providing music, free food and refreshments as well. Their customers gathered and said their goodbyes to those pesky files and paperwork that were taking up valuable space in offices and homes.

After hours of heavy loading and shredding, Big Key Self Storage was pressed for time and competing with the Miami heat throughout, but were almost finished. Having survived intact and creating smiles on the faces of happy customers, they sat an enjoyed a cold drink and good ol’ fashion air conditioning.
