MiniCo Insurance Agency is continuing its ongoing initiative to create a series of safety and loss control videos and other resources that can be utilized by self-storage owners, operators and managers. A second video entitled “Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls” has been added to the “MiniCo Safety Shorts” video series, which is available online at https://www.minico.com/SafetyVideos as well as https://www.youtube.com/MiniCoInsurance.

Slip-and-fall injuries are an important safety concern for business owners such as self-storage operators due in part to their frequency and potential for severe injury. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that slips, trips and falls account for 25 percent of all nonfatal and 15 percent of all fatal workplace injuries.

MiniCo’s new video “Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls” addresses a number of risk factors that may be identified at a self-storage facility and provides guidance for owners, operators and managers to help minimize the risk of slips, trips and falls among customers and employees. Topics addressed in the video include conducting regular property inspections, identifying uneven surfaces and obstacles, addressing wet and icy surfaces, and the importance of proper lighting in hallways and outdoor areas.

MiniCo President and CEO Mike Schofield said, “For business owners, slip-and-fall injuries can be one of the most costly types of claims. MiniCo’s goal in creating this video is to help self-storage facility operators and managers better understand the risk and provide information and tools to assist in identifying and mitigating hazards before an incident occurs.”

The first video in the series provided a tenant safety checklist for self-storage managers. Future videos will address topics such as proper lifting techniques, ladder safety, lock-cutting safety and the safe use of equipment and machinery. Each video will include a link to a quiz designed to reinforce the viewer’s retention of the subject matter.
