ST. BALDRICK’S FOUNDATION JOINS CHARITY STORAGE; ANOTHER WORTHWHILE CAUSE BENEFITS FROM STORAGE AUCTIONS

Charity Storage keeps growing in scope and another charitable cause is a winner. Since its launch in January, Charity Storage has seen a steady stream of nonprofits enrolling to be eligible for Charity Storage auction funds.  And now pediatric cancer research will benefit from the program as the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, co-founded by Tim Kenny, is on board with Charity Storage. Kenny, the Chairman of Aran Insurance Services Group, which has ties to the self storage industry through one of its holdings, MiniCo, heard about Charity Storage (www.charitystorage.org) during a self storage convention and knew St. Baldrick’s should get involved. “We will encourage our supporters to donate items to facilities that participate in the auction of charity units, and will encourage those facilities to select the St. Baldrick’s Foundation as their charity of choice,” Kenny said. Charity Storage was Co-founded by Lance Watkins and Barry Hoeven, who saw the popularity of self storage auctions grow (thanks in large part to the A&E show Storage Wars) and realized that the self storage industry could give back to society through special auctions. Proceeds from designated  auctions benefit local and national charities.  Hoeven, who is the chairman of US Storage Centers (www.usstoragecenters.com),  and Watkins, founder and creator of the website Storage Treasures (www.storagetreasures.com), are thrilled that St. Baldrick’s Foundation is now part of the Charity Storage program. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have St. Baldrick’s as a supporter and beneficiary of Charity Storage,” said Watkins. “We’d like to thank Tim for his support and hope that children across the country battling cancer will benefit from our efforts. We also want to encourage self storage facilities across the country to choose St. Baldrick’s as a beneficiary of their auctions.” The net proceeds from the sale of each unit at a Charity Storage auction are split three ways — The Self Storage Association Foundation receives 10 percent, Kure It Cancer Research (www.kureit.org) receives 30 percent, and the individual facility chooses a charity to receive the remaining 60 percent. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation raises money for pediatric cancer research, much of it through its signature head-shaving fundraising events. Other charities recently joining the program include the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, A Better LA, the Child Abuse Prevention Center, and the Ocean Institute. “As we expand our base of participating storage facilities, we will be adding more and more nonprofits to our list of choices,” says Charity Storage Director Alison Hahn. “We are very excited about the difference we can make locally and nationally, across a wide range of charitable causes.” Charity Storage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized as tax exempt by the IRS. Federal Tax ID# 45-3253579. For more information, visit charitystorage.org or E-mail info@charitystorage.org. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.
