4 Reasons to Start 2018 With A Security System Health Check from PTI

Each year millions of people in the US make New Year’s resolutions, but by February 80% of those resolutions have already been abandoned.  It’s tough to stay committed to going to the gym every day or to cutting out caffeine when you pass Starbucks every morning on the way to work. Let’s face it, most resolutions are really hard to keep.

According to a commonly cited Forbes article on resolutions, the key to success is resolving to do something that’s both practical and simple.  With that in mind, the largest provider of access control and technology solutions in self-storage has created a practical new service to help self-storage owners begin 2018 on the right foot.

PTI Security Systems is now offering a proactive device health and system inspection program called Health Check.  Health Check is a series of diagnostic tests that inspects more than 55 points of potential vulnerability in your security software and hardware.  The Health Check system was designed to help identify and fix potential issues before they even begin.

If you’re wondering how a system check will benefit your business this year, read on to learn more!

  1. Unauthorized Gate Codes.

Throughout the year, hundreds to thousands of unique access codes are assigned at the typical self-storage facility.  Each time a new tenant access code or gate code is given, your site security could be compromised.  If that code isn’t properly deactivated upon move-you’re your facility could be vulnerable to both unauthorized entry and “ghost rentals.”  Better yet, if any employees have left your company since you last ran a system check, are you sure their access code has  been removed?  If you’re unsure if past tenants or past employees still have active access codes, the start of the year is a great time to find an answer to these  questions.

Past renters and employees presumably know the layout of your business very well, and if they have active access codes, you’re putting your business in jeopardy.

  1. Wear and Tear.

Rain, snow, blazing heat, and maybe even a few sticky hands a spilt soda or two come in contact with your gate access control and security hardware.  Over time,            wires get frayed and batteries lose their juice.  Wouldn’t you like to know if you’re hardware is good working order well before there’s an issue?

  1. Get A Peek Under the Hood

If you purchased a new facility in 2017 and are unsure of how the access control system was managed in the past, a security system health check is a quick and easy way to “look under the hood” of your new facility.

  1. Manager Education

In addition to the peace of mind that a system and device Health Check affords, the PTI team takes the time to educate managers on security system best practices.  We’ll cover everything from running reports and backing up data to removing unauthorized users and tracking down accounting issues.
